talkSPORT betting tips – Best boxing bets and expert advice on Joyce v Chisora

Joe Joyce and Derek Chisora face off in London this weekend in a huge all-British heavyweight tussle.

Joyce responded to a pair of defeats to Zhilei Zhang by overcoming Kash Ali in his last bout, while Chisora comes into the bout after beating Gerald Washington in a comeback outing of his own.

There are no titles on the line here but given the fact both men are clearly in the twilight of their respective careers there is still plenty on the line.

  • Under 7.5 rounds @ 5/6
  • Derek Chisora to win by KO, TKO or Disqualification @ 11/2

Chisora has the style to trouble Joyce

Chisora goes into the fight as the big underdog but War could pull off the upset this weekend.

Joyce worked his way into the mandatory position for the WBO belt, but a pair of defeats to China’s Zhang has seen his stock fall significantly and Saturday’s outing is probably a make-or-break moment in the 38-year-old’s career.

The same could be said for Chisora, 40, and Joyce’s promoter Frank Warren sees this as a bout where “the winner is right back in business, with no real place to go for the loser”.

Joyce was famed for his granite chin and resilience before his defeats to Zhang, but those losses exposed a number of weaknesses. He was too easy a target to hit, and when he did get caught he couldn’t stand up to Zhang’s power.

Chisora and Joyce are both pressure fighters who like to come forward, but Del Boy has better movement and that could be the difference here. If he is able to close the distance and connect with some of his power shots, he may have a bit too much for this version of Joyce.

The Juggernaut returned to action with an uninspiring win over Ali earlier this year in his first assignment since his two defeats to Zhang. Chisora is a significant step up in class and Joyce will need to be a lot better than he was against Ali if he is to come away with a victory.

It is worth pointing out that Chisora has four defeats in his last six fights, but all of those losses have come against either current or former world champions, and his greater experience and aggressive style gives him more than just a puncher’s chance of picking up the 35th win of his career this weekend.

Judges unlikely to be required

Whoever triumphs in this heavyweight showdown, there is a good chance the scorecards will be irrelevant as both carry enough power to finish this early.

Only one of Joyce’s 18 fights has gone the distance, while 23 of Chisora’s 34 victories have been KOs and four of his 13 defeats have come inside the distance.

Given how key a victory is for both of these fighters, there is the possibility we could see a cagey start but the more likely scenario is both men try and force the issue from the off.

Both Joyce and Chisora will see a stoppage as their most likely route to a vital victory and that could lead to this fight being all over in under 7.5 rounds.

Chisora can leave no room for doubt

Both of these men are capable of finishing this one early. If Joyce gets his timing right with his jab he could make it a very tough evening for Chisora, but we haven’t seen that version of Juggernaut for a while now, while War always puts on a show.

Joyce left himself open against Zhang and Chisora is probably a bit more mobile than China’s Big Bang, so he should be able to create a few openings, and he could push himself right back into the world title mix with an emphatic stoppage win here.
