The 'Problem Child' has always insisted his ambition is to become world champion in the sport before the end of his career, but would need to alter his course.

But WBA president Mendoza is open to handing Paul a world title shot, against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, son of former three-weight world champion and boxing icon Julio Cesar Chavez.

He tweeted: "I am not against a Jake Paul vs Julio Cesar Chavez Jr for a championship."

The opinion attracted criticism from boxing fans in the comments, but Paul will be delighted with the stance set out.

Chavez Jr has a wealth of experience as a professional having fought 60 times with 53 wins, six defeats and one draw.

The Mexican fought on the undercard of Paul's clash with Perry, facing ex-UFC star Uriah Hall after a three-year hiatus from the ring.

It was by no means a statement performance, but he got the job done cruising to a unanimous points win.

Chavez Jr has reigned as the WBC middleweight world champion previously, beating Sebastian Zbik in 2011.

He made three defences of the crown before being stopped by Sergio Martinez the following year to lose his belt.

Negotiations between the pair for a fight would likely be routine, given Chavez Jr has worked with Paul's Most Valuable Promotions on multiple occasions.

The former world champion was booed for his performance against Hall but proceeded to call out Paul nonetheless.

Talks were previously held between the pair, but Chavez Jr explained the conditions it would need for him to consider the event.

“Jake Paul and his people contacted me regarding a fight with Paul,” said Chavez Jr. told Fight News in 2022.

“I said ‘yes,’ but then again [advisor] Lupe Valencia, who is with Paul now and used to be with me a few years back, said they offered me $1-to-$3 million dollars plus pay per view.

"When it’s a fight that can sell millions and can break records because he is popular and I have a name, I’m a former world champion, so I made it clear that it has to be a 50/50 split for me to take the fight.

"People want me to beat him, [Jake Paul] is strong and he knows how to organize the fights well at his weight, it would be a matter of reaching an agreement.

"He generate a lot of expectations and money for the morbid, a match with me would be good.

"These [brothers] haven't learned how to fight well and I can take advantage of that. Jake Paul can punch, but he's not a boxer."
